Code: MOS 50 ID/OD

MOS-50-OD/ID™ is a take out bitumen coating used in ferrous metal foundries for spray and dip application as a Protective Coating. This VOC-Compliant coating is perfect for ductile and cast iron applications as a finish or primer coat. Its matrix is constructed with excellent rust prevention, adhesion and durability components for tough handling and rugged environment. This industrial strength coating can dry to touch quickly in a few minutes high velocity forced air movement (2500-10,000 CFPM). Professional Coating Technologies provides on-site technical support for all its products.

  • VOC-compliant emission
  • Sustainability of air quality and workers health improvement
  • Fast drying
  • Superior corrosion resistance
  • Superior adhesion
  • Dip tank and bulk tank stability
  • Uniform coating flow control
  • Low odor
  • On-site technical support

  • Approved by UL and tested under NSF 61 Standards for Ductile Iron Pipe OD & ID for potable water services.
  • ANSI/AWWA C104 /A21.4 Cement-Mortar Lining for Ductile-Iron Pipe and Fittings for water.

MOS-50-OD/ID™ may be applied to a variety of surfaces without extensive cleaning. The surface should be as free as possible of oil, grease and other foreign substances. The coating shall be applied to dry surfaces for faster drying time and/or thicker coverage.

Surface Temperature – For best adhesion and dry times the surface to be coated should be between between 60º -125ºF. If surface temperatures cannot be raised, increase the temperature of coating until desired adhesion and dry times are achieved. Do not exceed 125ºF in spray application and 100ºF (38ºC) in dip, brush or roller application.

Previously Painted Surfaces – MOS-50-OD/ID™ may be applied over itself and most of other coatings with normal cleaning preparation.

The following brevity instructions are for informational purposes only. (contact Technical Support Department for complete information.)

Preparation - Stir coating prior to use. Keep vortex to minimum for minimizing air being introduced into the coating. Thinning is not required. However, if thinning is desired, contact Technical Support Department for information. Keep the coating container covered until the coating is ready to be applied, from which the possibility of contamination and skin-over can be minimized. Inspect the cleanness of all equipment including pump, filter, and tanks prior to use, and clean with mineral spirits as needed.

Application equipment – MOS-50-OD/ID™ may be applied with an airless sprayer (minimum 30:1 ratio), pressure pot, dip process, roller, or brush.

When thinning is desired, contact Technical Support Department for information. Only using the correct thinner specified by Technical Support Department. Using an incorrect thinner will cause performance issue. DO NOT ADD WATER.

Rate of coverage- MOS-50-OD/ID™ provides best protection at coverage of thickness of 3.5 – 5.5 mils dry (5.5 – 8.0 mils wet). The typical Coverage should be 320 sq.ft./gal (or 8 sq.m/L), depending on the porosity of the surface.

Spray application – Follow equipment manufacturer’s normal recommended spray practices. The use of smaller tips and multiple passes will reduce dry times. Coating may be heated with inline heater to aid in the drying process.

Dip application – Both the product to be dipped and the coating should be at least 60ºF (15ºC). Temperature below 60ºF will reduce coating performance. Product to be dipped should remain immersed for at least 12 seconds.

Brush and roller application – Take care not to agitate the coating with the roller or brush, as this will cause bubbles in the coating. Immerse brush or roller in coating when not in use. Use bucket for dipping rather than roller pan.

Drying - MOS-50-OD/ID™ will dry to touch within 15 minutes with proper high velocity forced air movement (2500-10,000 CFPM) and fully cure in 24 hours with proper fans on under normal conditions. For faster drying times, apply forced air immediately after application. If spraying, add an inline heater and operate at 145º - 180ºF (63º - 80ºC) for better atomization that will enhance drying.

Clean up – Clean equipment with mineral spirits, immediately after use.

Finish coat - MOS-50-OD/ID™ may be top coated after 24 hours with most of finish coatings including enamel, alkyd, epoxy, and polyurethane. Avoid coatings with high solvent content.

Keep away from high voltage electrical equipment. If storing for extended period of time, periodic stirring every 30-45 days is recommended to prevent settling. MOS-50-OD/ID™ is an environmentally friendly coating. DO NOT ADD WATER TO THIS COATING. As with all earth friendly coatings, normal precautions should be taken to minimize any risk associated with usage. Consult Material Safety Data Sheet prior to use. This product is for industrial use only and is to be applied by trained professionals.
